Green-screen productions, like those for the Thor series, are, in Christian Bale’s words, “the essence of boredom.”
In the visual effects-heavy 2022 film Thor: Love and Thunder, alongside Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, Bale portrays the antagonist Gorr.
The actor was questioned about whether or not he believes green-screen acting is for him in a recent interview with GQ.
“I mean, monotony is the definition of it,” he remarked. “You have decent folks. Other actors that you have have a lot more expertise with it than I have.
“Can you distinguish between one day and the next? No. Without a doubt. You don’t know what to do. I was unable to tell one step from another.

They keep claiming that you are in Stage 3. The question is, “Which one is that?” The blue one, I say. They respond, “Yeah.” However, you are in Stage 7. Who or what is that? The blue one, I say. I thought, “Uh, where?”
Despite having starred in prominent roles in several Batman movies, The Fighter, and Vice, to name a few, Bale said elsewhere in the interview that he doesn’t perceive himself as a leading man.
I’ve never thought of myself as a leading guy; it’s dull, he declared. “You miss out on the best portions. Even though I play the lead, I always behave like I’m the fourth or fifth character down because you have more freedom in that position. I also don’t give much thought to a character’s potential impact on the larger narrative. It’s for me to have fun, just like with animals and kids. Have a narrow focus on what you’re doing and disregard the impact you’re having.
