In a forthcoming HBO Max Scooby Doo Halloween movie, Velma seems to be looking for a same-sex partner.
People have been utilising clips from the animated special “Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!” to circulate on social media and claim that the character is finally coming out as gay.
Other videos have also been making the rounds on social media, one of which features Velma confessing to colleague detective Daphne that she is “crushing big time” and seeking guidance on what to do.
Fans have always held the opinion that Velma belonged to the LGBTQ+ group.
In his draught for the live-action “Scooby-Doo” movie, director James Gunn claimed to have attempted to make the character “explicitly homosexual” in 2020.
He tweeted at the time, “Velma was openly homosexual in my first draught (for the live-action “Scooby-Doo”) in 2001.” But the studio just kept diluting it, making it vague (in the version shot), then nothing (in the version that was published), and ultimately having a boyfriend (in the sequel).
Both the live-action movie from 2001 and its follow-up from 2004 both starred Linda Hamilton.
The “Mystery Incorporated” series’ supervising producer, Tony Cervone, shared a Pride-themed Instagram post about Velma and the character Marcie during 2020 Pride Month.
“Obviously, I don’t represent all incarnations of Velma Dinkley, but I am a significant figure in this particular representation. Ten years ago, we were as explicit as we could be about our goals “read the caption. “Most of our supporters understood it. I advise others who didn’t to take a closer look.”
Warner Bros., which, like HBO Max, is owned by CNN’s parent company, has been contacted by CNN for comment.
On October 16, “Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!” premieres on HBO Max.
